When Henry Hinrich Haak was born in February 1837 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, his father, Carsten, was 30 and his mother, Lisette, was 37. He married Dorathea Schliching in 1859. They had seven children in 27 years. He died in 1914 in Durant, Iowa, having lived a long life of 77 years, and was buried in Davenport City, Iowa.
